A Comprehensive Hub for Marine Research

Located on a stunning coastal campus in Kaohsiung, NSYSU is Taiwan’s flagship university for marine research. The College of Marine Sciences integrates three departments and three research institutes across major fields including marine science, marine bioresources, marine engineering, and marine affairs, supported by advanced facilities such as the Dongsha Atoll Research Station, Underwater Vehicle Research & Development Center, and Research Vessel New Ocean Researcher 3 and its Marine Instrument Center. Our scientific team comprises distinguished experts, including a national Academician and highly cited scholars, leading cutting-edge research from deep-sea exploration to ocean policy innovation.

A Flexible and Cross-Disciplinary Pathway

To further attract global talent, the International Doctoral Program of Marine Science and Technology (IDPMST) was launched in 2021. This program offers greater flexibility in admissions, coursework, and cross-disciplinary training compared with traditional departmental PhD programs, and expands doctoral recruitment opportunities for independent research institutes within the college.

All full-time faculty members of the College of Marine Sciences are affiliated with IGPMST, organized into five academic divisions:

• Marine Biology & Ecology: Marine biodiversity, ecosystems, ecological resilience, coral reefs, trophic interactions
• Marine Chemistry and Geology: Carbon cycling, nutrient dynamics, particle transport, environmental chemistry
• Marine Biomedicine and Natural Products: Marine bioresources, chemical compounds, biomedical applications
• Marine Engineering and Technology: Underwater vehicles, ocean observation systems, marine energy, structural design
• Marine Affairs: Ocean governance, sustainability, marine spatial planning, marine resource management
